Skyrim Power Of The Elements Quest Walkthrough
Mastering Destruction magic in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim requires players to push beyond standard spellcasting and prove their mastery to the College of Winterhold. The quest titled Power of the Elements allows mages to unlock devastating Master-level spells that can easily turn the tide of battle. Understanding how to navigate this markerless riddle quest ensures a smooth journey across Tamriel.
Starting the Master Destruction Quest
To initiate the quest, your character must first reach level 90 or higher in the Destruction skill tree. Travel to the College of Winterhold and speak directly with Faralda in the Hall of Countenance. Ask her if there is anything more to learn about Destruction magic to receive a mysterious book.
This initial book contains a cryptic riddle that directs you toward the first elemental altar. Unlike typical Skyrim objectives, this quest does not provide explicit quest markers on your map. You must inspect the text after each successful step to reveal the clue for the next location.
Solving the First Riddle at Windward Ruins
Your first destination is the Windward Ruins, located southwest of Dawnstar. Upon arriving at the ruined stone structure, locate the central stone pedestal. Place the book onto the altar to prepare it for elemental activation.
Equip and cast any Fire spell directly onto the pedestal to trigger an elemental reaction. Once the magic flares, pick the book back up and read it from your inventory. The text will update automatically with new poetic lines guiding you toward the second site.
Navigating to North Skybound Watch and Four Skull Lookout
The second clue points to North Skybound Watch, situated in the mountains east of Riverwood. Clear any enemies guarding the overlook before placing the book on the pedestal. Cast a Frost spell on the altar, retrieve the updated book, and read it once more.
The final site is Four Skull Lookout, located east of Markarth past the river. Set the book on the third pedestal and hit it with a Shock spell to finalize the ritual. Interact with the book one last time to officially learn the Master Fire Storm spell.
Unlocking Additional Master Destruction Spells
Completing the ritual permanently grants you the ability to cast Fire Storm in combat. You can also return to Faralda at the College of Winterhold to inspect her expanded shop inventory. She will now sell the remaining Master Destruction spell tomes, Blizzard and Lightning Storm.
These powerful spells require two hands and a lengthy casting time, so plan your tactical positioning carefully before entering combat. Combining these spells with Magicka-reducing gear maximizes your effectiveness in major endgame battles. Using these elemental powers elevates your mage to the absolute peak of spellcasting dominance.
